The Big Beach Busk

The Big Beach Busk returns to Portobello on Saturday 29 August 2026, filling the beach and promenade with musicians and performers from 12pm to 6pm. The free community event has no fixed headliners or formal running order, with performers simply turning up and finding a place to play.

The organisers describe it as an all-day flash mob by the sea: no tickets, no booking for performers, and no single main stage.

What To Expect

Acoustic musicians, singers, bands, choirs, poets, and other performers spread along the promenade and beach. The line-up develops naturally during the afternoon, creating clusters of music rather than one scheduled concert.

Anyone can take part, but performers should be considerate about volume, space, and neighbouring acts. Visitors can walk the full length of the event, stop at individual performances, and support musicians directly.

Entry and Practical Information

Location and Getting There

The Busk takes place along Portobello Beach and the promenade. Lothian Buses connect Portobello with the city centre, while Brunstane station is further inland. Parking is limited on busy summer weekends.
