Netflix Dept Q Training Programme Opens for Edinburgh Season 2 Filming
A paid trainee scheme for Netflix’s hit series Dept Q is now open for applications in Edinburgh.
The Dept Q Training Programme, backed by Screen Scotland, Sony Pictures Television and Netflix, is recruiting up to 20 new entrants to work behind the scenes on the second season, which starts filming in the city this July.
What the scheme offers
The programme targets people with little or no professional experience in film and TV. Successful applicants will be placed in departments including camera, costume, lighting, sound, make-up, construction, art, locations, production, SFX and VFX/post-production.
Trainees will be paid £750 a week (including holiday pay) and will work alongside experienced crew for around five to six months during the main production period.
Key dates and how to apply
Applications close at 9am on Wednesday, 29 April 2026. Interviews begin from 5 May. Induction days are scheduled for 21 and 22 May (to be confirmed). Trainees will be in post by 25 May at the latest.
You apply through the Screen Scotland website, where separate forms are available for each department. You need a basic understanding of the film and TV industry and no more than 12 months’ paid experience in your chosen area.

Why this matters locally
Dept Q is already a major production for Edinburgh. Season 2 will film on location across the city and at FirstStage Studios in Leith from July through to December. The trainee places give local people a direct route into professional film work on a big-budget Netflix show, rather than having to move to London or elsewhere.

This is a rare, properly paid entry point into high-end film and TV production right here in Edinburgh.
For anyone serious about building a career in the industry, it’s one of the most practical opportunities the city has seen in a long time.
