A Guitarist Built for the Stage

Trower first became widely known through Procol Harum before leaving the band in the early 1970s and building a solo career around a heavier, blues-led guitar sound. The 1974 album Bridge of Sighs remains the central reference point, but the Edinburgh show has a much wider body of work to draw from.

His career has also included collaborations with former Cream bassist Jack Bruce and the United State of Mind project with Maxi Priest and Livingstone Brown. The common thread is Trower’s playing: slow-burning solos, thick guitar tones, and songs that leave room for the band to stretch out.

Jack J Hutchinson gives the night a second blues-rock set rather than a short acoustic warm-up. His own work leans on hard guitar riffs and a raw vocal style, which should make the support slot a natural fit.
