After Party

After Party receives its world premiere at the Traverse Theatre from 6 to 30 August 2026, in a co-production from the Traverse, Paines Plough, and Belgrade Theatre Coventry.

Morna Young’s play begins with an 80th birthday gathering, then changes course when Vivienne Blackwood tells her fractured family that the party is also a farewell.

What To Expect

Vivienne has called the family together on her own terms. What initially looks like another difficult Blackwood gathering becomes a conversation about autonomy, death, love, responsibility, and what relatives owe each other when a decision cannot simply be talked away.

Katie Posner directs Young’s darkly comic drama, with Alison Peebles playing Viv. The production runs for 2 hours 5 minutes including a short interval and has a 14+ age guide. It is also part of the Traverse’s £1 Ticket Project.

Getting There

The Traverse is on Cambridge Street behind the Usher Hall, close to Lothian Road and the West End. Tram stops, buses, and Haymarket are all within the wider city-centre area. Performances are in Traverse 1.
