What To Expect
Absolutely Famous is built around Wax’s television archive. She and Clive Tulloh review clips from the interview shows that made her a fixture of British television, then add stories about what happened around the interviews and what viewers did not see on screen.
The names referenced by Pleasance give an idea of the range: Donald Trump, OJ Simpson, Pamela Anderson and Madonna are among the subjects revisited. The point is not simply to replay old footage, but to hear Wax and the producer who worked with her explain how those encounters actually unfolded.
That makes this closer to a comic live retrospective and conversation than a conventional new-material stand-up show. It should appeal particularly to people who remember Ruby Wax Meets and Full Wax, but the stories also work as a look at a very different era of celebrity television.
