The central joke is that Skipper went from being a tradesman with no qualifications to a stand-up comedian with no qualifications, using that change of career as the starting point for the show.

What To Expect

Skint is a personal stand-up hour about changing careers without suddenly becoming a different person. Skipper draws on his previous life as a carpet fitter and contrasts it with the oddness of making comedy his full-time job, while keeping the material tied to money, work and everyday family pressures.

Fatherhood is another strand in the show. The official description focuses on a working-class dad trying to navigate life, which gives the hour a clearer subject than a general collection of club routines. The comedy comes from the gap between the supposed glamour of a new career and the practical reality underneath it.

This is the show that earned Skipper an Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination. He has since appeared on Live at the Apollo and supported larger touring acts, but Skint remains grounded in the background that first fed his stand-up.
