Grid Iron brings Mayflies to Brown’s of Leith from 7 to 30 August 2026, turning the Rear Warehouse of the former engineering works into the setting for a site-specific adaptation of Andrew O’Hagan’s novel.
The world premiere follows the friendship between Tully and Noodles from their music-soaked youth in the 1980s to a reckoning with mortality decades later.

What To Expect
Adapted and directed by Ben Harrison, the production uses Brown’s of Leith as more than a backdrop.
The former metalworks is reworked to echo the clubs and music venues that shape the young characters’ lives, with an 1980s-driven soundtrack running through the piece.
Andrew O’Hagan’s story moves between youthful intensity and middle age, focusing on the friendships that define people long after the nights, bands, and places that first brought them together have changed.
Grid Iron is known for site-specific work, and Mayflies is part of the 2026 Made in Scotland showcase.
