Founded in 1947, EIFF remains one of the world’s longest-running film festivals and a core part of Edinburgh’s August schedule.
The festival continues to champion bold new cinema and discovery, with curated strands covering international premieres, Scottish showcase titles, short films, animation, documentary, and experimental work.
Across the seven-day programme you’ll find:
- World, international and UK premieres
- Scottish and UK gala screenings
- Documentary, animation, and shorts programmes
- Q&As, panel discussions, filmmaker masterclasses
- Special themed strands and retrospectives
- Late-night screenings and pop-up events
Screenings typically take place in venues such as the Cameo, Filmhouse partner venues, Vue Omni, and additional festival spaces around the city. The full 2026 line-up will be announced closer to summer, along with ticket release dates.
