The Georgian House

The Georgian House at 7 Charlotte Square recreates life in Edinburgh’s New Town during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Designed by Robert Adam, the townhouse presents the formal rooms used by the Lamont family alongside the working spaces used by their servants.

Visitors normally move between the decorated drawing room, dining areas, bedrooms and below-stairs rooms, with period furniture, paintings and household objects explaining how wealth and class shaped daily life. The contrast between the family rooms and the darker service areas is one of the strongest parts of the visit.

Current Closure

The Georgian House is currently closed for exterior and interior conservation work. Keep the listing bookmarked, but check the National Trust for Scotland website for a confirmed reopening date before travelling.

Getting There

Charlotte Square is at the western end of George Street, close to Princes Street and the West End tram stop. Haymarket and Waverley stations are both walkable. Check the official Georgian House page for conservation and reopening updates.
