Dishoom Edinburgh
Dishoom Edinburgh brings Bombay café-style food to St Andrew Square, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, chai and late-evening drinks from one of the busiest restaurant spots in the New Town.
The Edinburgh branch has its own local story built around Scottish town planner and sociologist Patrick Geddes, who spent time in Bombay.
Food is the bigger reason to visit, though: the menu runs from bacon naan rolls and cooked breakfasts to grills, biryanis, curries, small plates and Dishoom’s slow-cooked House Black Daal.
What To Expect
Breakfast is one of Dishoom’s strongest draws and is served daily until 11:45am. The Bacon Naan Roll is the best-known option, while Edinburgh-specific touches include Haggis Pau. Later in the day, regular favourites include Chicken Ruby, House Black Daal, Gunpowder Potatoes, biryanis and grills.
Vegetarian, vegan and halal-friendly choices are clearly supported, and the restaurant also has dedicated dietary menus. The room is large, lively and usually busy rather than quiet or formal.
Bookings & Queues
Dishoom keeps many tables for walk-ins. Before 6pm, groups of any size can book. After 6pm, advance reservations are generally for groups of six or more, although walk-ins are still welcome.
At peak times, especially evenings and weekends, queues can build. Dishoom says waits can reach 30 minutes to an hour when it is busy, so breakfast, lunch or an early dinner is the easier option if you do not want to queue.

Monday to Wednesday: 8am-11pm. Thursday to Saturday: 8am-midnight. Sunday: 8am-11pm.

- Go before 11:45am if the bacon naan roll is the main reason for your visit.
- Evening walk-ins are easier if you avoid the main 7pm-8pm rush.
- During the Edinburgh Fringe, Dishoom says collection orders are unavailable.
