Assembly Roxy

Assembly Roxy is Assembly Festival’s year-round Edinburgh home, occupying a converted former church at 2 Roxburgh Place near Nicolson Street.

The venue combines several theatre spaces in one historic building and becomes one of Assembly’s main performance hubs during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Assembly Roxy hosts theatre, comedy, live music, talks, private events, and other performances during the year. During the Fringe, its spaces include Central, Upstairs, Downstairs, the Snug Bar, and Roxyboxy, with an outdoor festival area on Roxburgh Place.

The main building began life as a church and retains a number of original architectural features. Different rooms vary considerably in size and layout, so the space named on your ticket matters when arriving for a show.

Getting There

Assembly Roxy is just off Nicolson Street in Edinburgh’s Southside, opposite the Festival Theatre and close to Surgeons’ Hall, the University of Edinburgh, and the National Museum of Scotland. Numerous buses run along Nicolson Street and South Bridge, while Waverley Station is around a 15-minute walk away.

Before You Go

Performance times and public opening hours vary with the programme. During August, allow extra time around Nicolson Street and nearby Fringe venues, particularly between afternoon and evening shows.
