The Dome Edinburgh restaurant interior

The Dome

The Dome is one of Edinburgh’s most recognisable dining buildings, occupying a grand former banking hall at 14 George Street in the New Town.

It’s not a single restaurant in the usual sense. The building contains the Grill Room, Georgian Tea Room, Club Room and bars, so the best area depends on whether you want lunch, dinner, brunch, afternoon tea or drinks.

What To Expect

The Grill Room is the main brasserie-style restaurant and opens from noon daily, serving à la carte and table d’hôte menus beneath the building’s ornate columns and domed interior.

The Georgian Tea Room, on the first floor, serves afternoon tea from noon until 5pm, while the Club Room opens from 10am and serves brunch until 2pm.

The setting is a major part of the appeal. The Dome is particularly busy around Christmas, when its decorations become an attraction in their own right, but it’s a popular special-occasion and city-centre meeting place throughout the year.

Bookings

Reservations are strongly advised. Restaurant bookings in the Grill Room carry a deposit, and maximum table sizes vary by room. Bar tables in the Grill Room can be reserved earlier in the day before moving to walk-in service later.

Opening Hours

The Club Room opens from 10am daily. The Grill Room and Georgian Tea Room open from noon. Individual closing times and seasonal arrangements vary, so check the latest schedule before visiting.

Our Tips

  • Choose the room before booking: the Grill Room, Georgian Tea Room and Club Room serve different menus.
  • Book well ahead for December and other peak dates.
  • The Georgian Tea Room has lift access as well as stairs.
  • For a first visit, the Grill Room gives you the clearest view of the building’s famous banking-hall interior.

See The Dome’s official website for current menus, reservations and seasonal opening information.
