What To Expect
This is a live film concert rather than a standard cinema screening.
The film will be shown on screen while the orchestra performs the music live. For Prisoner of Azkaban, that means hearing John Williams’ score played in full during the film, including the darker, more atmospheric music that marks a shift from the first two Harry Potter films.
The setting should do a lot of the work here. Edinburgh Castle Esplanade gives the screening a proper outdoor event feel, and the mix of film, live music, and the Castle backdrop makes this one a bit different from the usual summer concert listing.

Tickets for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Edinburgh are available through Ticketmaster.

The film has a PG classification, meaning some scenes may not be suitable for younger children. Parents are advised to consider whether the film may upset younger or more sensitive children.
Location
Edinburgh Castle Esplanade sits at the top of the Royal Mile, directly outside Edinburgh Castle.
It’s used for major summer concerts and large outdoor events, so expect a busy Old Town around arrival time.
Getting There
Waverley Station is the closest main railway station, but the walk up to the Castle is steep. Leave extra time if you’re coming from the station or Princes Street.
City centre buses and trams stop within walking distance, though the final stretch up through the Old Town is on foot. Parking near the Castle is limited, so public transport is the safer option.
Our Tips
- Arrive early, especially if you’re walking up from Waverley.
- Dress for an outdoor evening event, even in July.
- Check your seating type before booking, as age rules differ slightly.
- Give yourself time after the show, as the Old Town can be slow to clear after big Esplanade events.
