Underworld Edinburgh Hogmanay concert scene with fireworks over Edinburgh Castle

Underworld To Headline Edinburgh Hogmanay Gardens Party

Underworld have been announced as the headline act for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay in the Gardens 2026/27, bringing the dance duo to West Princes Street Gardens on Thursday 31 December 2026.

Tickets go on sale this week for one of Edinburgh’s biggest nights of the year.

General sale tickets open at 10am on Friday 26 June through the official Edinburgh’s Hogmanay website.

The show is part of the city’s New Year celebrations, with Underworld due to play their first Hogmanay in the Gardens headline slot as Edinburgh welcomes in 2027. STV reports that tickets are priced from £79, including booking fees and a £1 charity donation.

Underworld Confirmed For Hogmanay In The Gardens

Underworld, best known to many for Born Slippy (Nuxx) and its link with Trainspotting, will perform beneath Edinburgh Castle as part of the official Hogmanay programme. The duo, Rick Smith and Karl Hyde, have been active since the late 1980s and remain one of the UK’s best-known electronic acts.

The List reports that Underworld will also provide the live soundtrack for the event’s Midnight Moment, with fireworks from Edinburgh Castle, lights and projections forming part of the New Year countdown.

Special guests for Hogmanay in the Gardens are still to be announced, according to the official Edinburgh’s Hogmanay listing.

Why This One Will Draw Attention

This is a smart booking for Edinburgh. Underworld sit in that rare space where they work for older dance fans, festival crowds, and people who only need to hear the first few seconds of Born Slippy to know exactly where they are.

There’s also a strong Edinburgh link. The track’s association with Trainspotting gives the announcement a local pop-culture hook, even if the event itself is really about the live show, the Gardens setting, and the New Year countdown.

For visitors, this is also the kind of announcement that starts the planning clock. Hotels, trains and city-centre restaurants tend to come under pressure around Hogmanay, so the ticket-sale date matters.

Tickets And Entry

Tickets for Hogmanay in the Gardens and the wider Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party go on general sale at 10am on Friday 26 June.

Anyone booking should check the live ticket page carefully before buying, as the Gardens concert and Street Party are separate event areas. The official Hogmanay Travel Office notes that Street Party tickets do not give access to the Concert in the Gardens.

The same travel office page also lists the Street Party timing as 21:00 to 00:30 on Thursday, 31 December 2026, although the full Concert in the Gardens details are still being updated.

What To Know Before Booking

  • Set a reminder: general sale opens at 10am on Friday 26 June.
  • Check the ticket type: Street Party and Gardens tickets are not the same thing.
  • Book travel early: Hogmanay is one of Edinburgh’s busiest periods.
  • Watch for guest announcements: the full Gardens line-up has not been confirmed yet.

Our Take

This feels like one of the stronger Hogmanay headline bookings in a while. It has the obvious New Year dance-party energy, but it also gives Edinburgh a bit of cultural shorthand because of the Trainspotting connection.

The main thing for readers is simple: don’t assume a Street Party ticket gets you into the Gardens. That detail catches people out, and it’s worth checking before spending money.
