The Cauldron Unleashes Spook-tacular for Halloween

It’s time to unbox the magic wand and dust off the witch’s hat! Edinburgh’s wizard-themed bar and restaurant, The Cauldron, is launching Halloween Editions of its award-winning Potions and Wizard Afternoon Tea Experiences this October.

For those wanting to celebrate early, The Halloween Wizard Afternoon Tea Experience will run from 12 – 31 October, while The Halloweek Potions Making Experience will be available for a limited time only, from 25 – 31 October. Pumpkin Carving will also be running throughout the month of October.

The Halloween Wizard Afternoon Tea Experience comprises two new build-your-own teas, as well as themed food and dessert menu. The food offering includes range of ‘sand-witches’, scones, and Halloween-themed desserts – such as a Bloody Chocolate Cupcake, Pumpkin Cheesecake Verrine (topped with an edible Witch’s Finger), Halloween Macaron and Carrot Cake.

Each item is placed on a magic wand-activated tea stand that’s topped with a glowing Dragon Egg and has been designed by The Cauldron’s Magicineers for interactivity, beauty and fun.

The Afternoon Tea with a Halloween twist also comes with an interactive ‘design your own’ blend using seasonal spices and flowers for a tasty autumnal tea and a ‘Spooked Tea’ iced tea – with the option to add a spot of gin for a magical kick in the broomstick. Prices start at £35 per person.

Running from 25 – 31 October, the Halloweek Potions Experience is a special themed potion making experience, with a brand new brew-your-own potion, ‘Blood & Sinew’. This sinister and delicious invention by The Cauldron’s Magicineers has its customers constructing a raspberry vodka martini with DIY homemade spheres of white chocolate through a process called ‘reverse spherification’, similar to how popping boba for Bubble Tea is made. Customers squeeze drips of ‘Creamed Unicorn’ into a sodium alginate bath, where they are ‘cooked’ by chemical reaction into squishy spheres.  Non-alcoholic mocktails are available for children and adults.

The 1 hour 45 minute experience includes two cocktails to brew. Prices start at £25.99 for children under 12 and £41.99 for adults.

To get visitors in to the ‘spirit’, The Cauldron will be intensely decorated with carved pumpkins and themed decorations, and all guests will receive a warm welcome mug of ‘HallowCream’ Cider (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). An eerie seasonal bar menu of molecular shots and cocktails will also be available and include shots like the ‘Bubbling Shots of Death’, the ‘Candy Corn Shot’, and ‘The Ectoplasm Shot’. Signature cocktails ‘The Three Witches’ (a sharing cocktail served in a bubbling cauldron), ‘The Doom’ (served with fire on a black slate) or non-alcoholic option, ‘The Shirley Spellman’ (a Shirley Temple served in a bubbling, mini cauldron).

Also running throughout the month of October will be a 45 minute pumpkin carving activity. Prices start at £20 for pumpkin carving with an alcohol-free ‘HallowCream’ Cider or £25 for pumpkin carving with an alcoholic ‘HallowCream’ Cider.

The magical venue will be extending opening hours and adding extra time slots, as well as student-specific and child-friendly slots, to accommodate those on School Holidays.

Craig Barnes, General Manager of The Cauldron Edinburgh, comments: “We’ve gone all-out this spooky season with our Halloween Wizard Afternoon Tea and plan to deliver a product that is thematic, fun, and delicious.  For us at The Cauldron Co., every day is Halloween, but now we get to share even more of that passion and enthusiasm with you through this unique food and beverage experience!”

Matthew Cortland, co-founder of The Cauldron Co., adds: “Halloween is our absolute favourite time of year, and we pulled out all the stops with the release of our newest cocktail invention: ‘Blood & Sinew’. This drink has been in development for over two years, as it’s pretty tricky to get right, and we feel that Halloween is the right time to unveil our latest creation. We can’t wait to see people’s reactions to it!”

Upon arrival, all guests who book either the Potions or Wizard Afternoon Tea Experiences will be given The ‘HallowCream Cider’ – a hot and spiced apple cider infused with cinnamon and orange, ginger beer, butterscotch syrup, and topped with homemade butterscotch whipped cream and a drizzling of caramel.  Boozy add-ons include a helping of cognac, bourbon, or Dead Man’s Fingers hazelnut rum.

For those looking to send a spooky seasonal gift, The Cauldron’s Online Shop has several options for sending a friend (or foe) an eerie present in the post. Halloween themed gifts include a Sparkly Halloween Potion: ‘Essence of Feline Familiar’ – a glittery blend of vodka, pear, and elderflower with a hint of violette, and served in a feline-shaped glassware; ‘Freeze Dried Unicorn Poop’ of various funky flavours, such as Spookies & S’cream, Poonut Butter & Jelly, Pungent Pickle and Sinfully Cinnamon Roll; and ‘Freeze Dried Fairy Droppings’.
