First Edinburgh Fringe 2026 Shows Go On Sale
Underbelly has released its first batch of shows across four major venues, giving an early look at what August in Edinburgh is shaping up to be.
Most of the current listings run from 5 August through to the end of the month, which effectively opens the first booking window now rather than later in spring.
First venues confirmed for Fringe 2026
Underbelly is returning to its core sites:
- George Square
- Cowgate
- Bristo Square
- Circus Hub on the Meadows
That layout will feel familiar if you’ve been before. Each space tends to develop its own identity over the month, and the early listings suggest that pattern is already holding for 2026.
Comedy is leading the early release
A big chunk of the first listings is comedy, with a mix of returning names, newer acts and work-in-progress shows already on sale.
Some of the early acts include:
- Paul Foot – The Future
- Mitch Benn – Asking Elvis
- Bilal Zafar – Rubicon
- Freya Parker – An Hour Of Decay!
- Gianmarco Soresi – Theater Adult
- Adam Riches – The Critic’s Way
- Killian Sundermann – Killian Dollar Baby
- James Barr – A Punchy Title (WIP)
The first comedy drop already mixes established names with newer acts and work-in-progress shows.
Theatre and musicals are already adding depth
There’s also enough non-comedy on sale to give a clearer sense of the wider programme.
- Spin Cycle – A queer Irish play about memory and relationships, pitched somewhere between surreal drama and rom-com.
- Crush – A British-Somali coming-of-age story set in a clinic waiting room, blending humour with more personal themes.
- MUSE: The Shakespeare Mayhem Musical – A chaotic musical comedy imagining Shakespeare’s characters competing for the spotlight.
- Apparently Ugly: A Stepsister Story – A fairytale twist told from the “other side” of Cinderella, leaning into comedy and music.
It’s not just comedy, either: theatre, musicals and family shows are already on sale.
Circus and family shows are on sale early again
One of the more useful takeaways is how early the family and circus programme is appearing.
- The Wing Scuffle Spectacular (Circus Hub)
- Splash Test Dummies (Circus Hub)
- Amazing Bubble Man (George Square)
- Bleep Bleep! (Bristo Square)
These are the kinds of shows that tend to sell out well before August, especially during weekends and school holiday periods. If you’re planning daytime Fringe visits, this is usually the part of the programme worth booking first.
Bristo Square already looks like a key hub
Even from this first release, Bristo Square stands out.
A large share of the early comedy and theatre listings are based there, suggesting it will again be one of the busiest areas in 2026. If you’re planning multiple shows in one day, it’s likely to be one of the easiest places to base yourself.
What this means if you’re planning August
This isn’t the full Fringe programme yet, but it’s enough to act on.
- Tickets are already live now, not just previews
- Early runs start from 5 August, with many shows running most of the month
- Family and circus shows are worth booking first
- More acts will be added gradually, rather than in one big release
The full programme will still bring thousands more shows, but the first real window to start planning Fringe 2026 is already open.
