What To Expect
Set in a northern English mining town during the 1984–85 miners’ strike, the musical follows Billy as he moves from boxing lessons into ballet and discovers a talent that changes the direction of his life. The story places his ambition alongside family pressure, class, community, and the upheaval surrounding the strike.
The returning production is part of a limited UK tour before a West End run. Edinburgh is one of only three UK tour stops listed ahead of the London transfer, which gives this Playhouse run a bit more weight than a routine touring week.
Tickets & Venue
The musical is at the Edinburgh Playhouse from 19 January to 6 February. Performance times vary across the run, with evening shows and selected matinees, so use the booking calendar for the exact date you want.
Tickets are on sale through ATG Tickets. The official production site also lists Edinburgh as a confirmed stop on the 2026/27 tour.
Planning Your Visit
The Playhouse sits beside Picardy Place in the New Town. Edinburgh Trams stop nearby, while Waverley Station is within walking distance for anyone arriving by train.
Because the run crosses late January and the first week of February, it is also a useful option for visitors travelling outside the busiest festival and Christmas periods.
Our Tips
- Check the performance calendar carefully, as matinee and evening times vary by date.
- Use Picardy Place tram stop if you are travelling across the city by tram.
- For weekend performances, booking earlier should give you a better choice of seats.
