Museum on the Mound
Museum on the Mound is a free museum inside the historic Bank of Scotland head office at the top of The Mound. Its displays use money as a route into wider stories about trade, banking, technology, crime, security, art and design.
The collection includes Scottish coins and banknotes, early forms of money, banking records, safes and material connected to the Bank of Scotland’s history. Hands-on elements let visitors try activities such as cracking a safe or examining how banknotes are designed and protected.
Planning a Visit
Admission is free, but the museum is not open every day. Opening times differ between weekdays, Saturdays and bank holidays, so check the current timetable rather than assuming standard museum hours.
Getting There
The museum is at the top of The Mound, near Bank Street, the Royal Mile and Princes Street Gardens. Waverley Station and the Princes Street tram stop are both close by. Visit the official Museum on the Mound website for opening updates.
