Monteiths
Monteiths is a Scottish restaurant and cocktail bar hidden behind a narrow entrance on the Royal Mile at 61 High Street.
The entrance is easy to walk past. Follow the passage beneath the decorative willow branches and the space opens into a more secluded restaurant and bar, giving Monteiths a very different feel from many of the busier Royal Mile dining rooms.
Food & Drink
The kitchen puts local sourcing and Scottish produce at the centre of the menu, with meat, seafood and seasonal ingredients changing through the year. Small plates and oysters also feature, while the bar has cocktails and an extensive whisky selection.
There’s a separate Whisky Snug for anyone more interested in a dram than a full meal, which makes Monteiths useful for both dinner and drinks.
Opening Hours & Bookings
Monday to Friday: 4pm-late. Saturday and Sunday: noon-late.
Bookings are secured with card details. Monteiths states that cancellations made within 24 hours can incur a £20-per-person charge. Groups larger than eight should contact the restaurant directly.
Our Tips
- Look for the willow-covered entrance rather than expecting a large street frontage.
- Weekday lunch is not normally available because the restaurant opens at 4pm Monday-Friday.
- The Whisky Snug is useful if you want drinks without committing to a full dinner.
- Book ahead during August because the Royal Mile is at its busiest during the Fringe.
Check the official Monteiths website for current menus, reservations and opening details.
