Morningside School of Music
Morningside School of Music is a private music school on Comiston Road offering one-to-one tuition for adults and children across a wide range of instruments, singing and music theory.
The school has operated in Edinburgh since 1999 and teaches complete beginners through to advanced musicians. Lessons can be geared towards playing for enjoyment, formal grades, performance, songwriting or music production.
Lessons & Tuition
Tuition includes piano, guitar, drums, singing, violin, bass, saxophone, clarinet, flute, trumpet, ukulele, cello and trombone, along with music theory and production. The school supports exam routes such as ABRSM, Trinity College London and Rockschool where appropriate.
Most teaching is one-to-one, with lessons available for both children and adults. The school also gives students opportunities to perform live and make recordings, which can be useful for anyone who wants more than weekly instrumental practice.
Booking & Prices
As of August 2026, many one-to-one lessons are listed at £36 for 30 minutes or £59 for an hour. Prices can vary by lesson type, so check the relevant instrument page before booking. The school’s customer service line operates from 8am to 10pm, seven days a week.
Our Tips
- If you are unsure which teacher or lesson format suits you, contact reception before booking rather than choosing purely by instrument.
- Ask about grade preparation at the outset if ABRSM, Trinity or Rockschool exams are your aim.
- The school is beside South Morningside Primary School and is served by frequent buses along Comiston Road.
- Adults are a large part of the school’s client base, so beginners should not assume lessons are mainly aimed at children.
