Lost Shore Announces Free Hogmanay Party with Midnight Surfing Near Edinburgh
Lost Shore Surf Resort is planning a free Hogmanay party on 31 December 2026, with live music, ceilidh dancing and a midnight surfing session to welcome 2027.
The resort at Ratho, west of Edinburgh, will host celebrations from midday until midnight, with the Edinburgh Sea Shanty Singers among the performers.
Admission is free, although food, drinks, reserved sea shanty tables and surfing sessions cost extra.
Surfers to Catch the First Waves of 2027
As the bells ring at midnight, a group of 10 to 20 surfers will take to Lost Shore’s wave pool for a special guided session.
The resort’s instructors will lead the activity, with wetsuits provided and the shoreline illuminated for spectators.
You don’t need previous surfing experience to take part, but all participants must be sober. Places will be limited, and bookings have not yet opened.
For everyone else, the midnight countdown can be enjoyed from the water’s edge.
What’s Happening at Lost Shore on Hogmanay?

The celebrations start at midday with music, hot food and drinks.
The Edinburgh Sea Shanty Singers will perform between 6pm and 7pm, followed by a traditional ceilidh in the evening.
Families are welcome, with face painting planned during the day and a children’s film area in the evening. Lost Shore has yet to confirm the final arrangements for these activities.
The resort’s Lost Kitchen will serve a Hogmanay menu featuring Scottish stovies, roast hog rolls, haggis bon bons and other winter dishes. Hot chocolate and mulled cider will also be available.
Lee Wood, Managing Director at Lost Shore Surf Resort, said:
“There’s a real sense of community around Hogmanay, and that’s something we’re keen to capture.”
Wood added that seeing surfers catch the first waves of 2027 while other guests celebrate on shore would make for an unusual start to the year.
New Year’s Day Loony Dook
Lost Shore also plans to hold a Loony Dook on Friday 1 January 2027, giving overnight guests the chance to begin the year with a cold-water dip.
The activity is currently advertised for people staying at the resort, although full arrangements have yet to be confirmed.
Accommodation at Lost Shore includes waterfront pods, larger units overlooking the lagoon and hilltop lodges.
