What to Budget for Before You Fly From Edinburgh Airport
Edinburgh Airport is Scotland’s busiest airport and the sixth busiest in the UK, with 16,980,588 passengers recorded in 2025. Unfortunately for those of us travelling through it, airports can be expensive, particularly when you factor in parking, food and other costs before you’ve even boarded your flight.
Planning ahead can help you avoid some of these expenses. Here are a few ways to keep your airport spending under control before your next trip.
Edinburgh Airport Parking Options
Avoid costly drop-off fees or expensive drive-up parking rates by organising your parking in advance. Use an Edinburgh Airport parking comparison site to compare official on-airport car parks with third-party operators.
Comparing prices before you travel can help you find a cheaper option, particularly if you’re leaving your car for several days.
Some of the parking options available at Edinburgh Airport include:
- Secure Airparks Park & Ride
- Official Plane Parking
- Drop & Go
- Official FastPark
- Flying Scot Park & Ride
- Official Airport Long Stay
There are also multi-storey parking options close to the terminal. Some Park & Ride services operate regular shuttle buses, although journey times and frequencies depend on the operator.
Prices vary according to the time of year, length of stay and parking option you choose. Booking ahead is often cheaper than paying on arrival.
Don’t forget the free drop-off option. Edinburgh Airport has a free pick-up and drop-off area in its Long Stay car park, allowing stays of up to 30 minutes. It’s around a 10-minute walk from the terminal, with no shuttle bus available. This can save you paying for the more convenient drop-off area beside the terminal.
The Airport Lounges at Edinburgh Airport
Airport food can be expensive. A couple of drinks and a meal could easily cost more than your Ryanair flight if you’ve managed to bag a bargain fare.
Edinburgh airport lounges are worth considering if you’re planning to eat, have a few drinks or spend several hours waiting for your flight.
Edinburgh Airport has four lounges:
- Aspire Lounge (near Gate 16): Available to passengers who book access, regardless of airline.
- Escape Lounge (near Gate 4): Open to paying guests, with Priority Pass and DragonPass access available where eligible.
- Turkish Airlines Lounge by Plaza Premium Group: Despite the name, passengers travelling with other airlines can also book access.
- British Airways Lounge: Access depends on your ticket, airline status or other eligibility. Check with British Airways before travelling.
The lounges offer food, drinks, Wi-Fi and charging facilities, although the amenities and access conditions differ.
Aspire currently advertises entry from £46 per person, including taxes. You may find cheaper rates through third-party booking websites, depending on your travel date and the length of your visit.
Before booking, compare the lounge price with what you’d otherwise spend on food and drinks in the terminal. If you’re only planning to have a coffee and a sandwich, paying for lounge access probably won’t save you money.
Restaurants and Duty-Free
Edinburgh Airport’s duty-free shops stock familiar brands, including Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Jo Malone London, Ray-Ban and Charlotte Tilbury.
However, duty-free doesn’t automatically mean cheaper. Prices can sometimes be higher than those available online or on the high street, so it’s worth comparing before buying.
You can also save 10% on eligible purchases using the airport’s online Reserve & Collect service.
If you don’t book an airport lounge and want something to eat, there are several options, from Costa and Pret to sit-down restaurants such as Giraffe and All Bar One.
As with most airports, expect to pay more for some food and drink than you would outside the terminal. If you’re travelling as a family, those extra costs can soon add up.
The easiest savings usually come from organising parking before you leave home, comparing lounge prices and avoiding unnecessary airport purchases. A little planning means more of your holiday budget is available for the trip itself.
