What To Expect

The first part of the class takes place in the Botanics’ Kitchen Garden. A garden expert will look at what is in season, give practical growing tips, and discuss ways to make better use of locally grown produce at home.

The cookery section then turns that produce into something you can preserve. An Edinburgh Food & Drink Academy teacher leads a 90-minute fermenting and pickling demonstration, with tastings and refreshments included during the session.

It’s a useful crossover between gardening and cookery rather than a standard kitchen class. If you want more ideas for green spaces around the city, see our guide to Edinburgh gardens.

Tickets & Entry

Places cost £126. RBGE members can use their current membership discount code when booking. The class is part of the Botanics’ adult education programme and attendees must be aged 16 or over.

Book through the official Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh booking page.

Location

The workshop takes place at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in Inverleith. The Garden has entrances at Arboretum Place and Inverleith Row, so check your booking information for any course-specific meeting instructions.

Our Tips

  • Allow time to reach the course meeting point inside the Garden rather than arriving at the entrance at 10am.
  • Wear something suitable for spending part of the session around the Kitchen Garden.
  • Book ahead because short courses need a minimum number of places to run and have limited capacity.
