Rooftop terrace at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh with views towards Edinburgh Castle

Virgin Hotels Edinburgh

Virgin Hotels Edinburgh occupies the restored India Buildings on Victoria Street, a few minutes from the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle.

The five-star hotel places guests in one of the Old Town’s most photographed streets, with the Grassmarket, George IV Bridge, and Lawnmarket all close by.

The hotel has 222 rooms and suites, known as Chambers. Each is divided into separate sleeping and dressing areas by a sliding privacy door, with practical touches such as adjustable lighting, a dressing table, yoga mat, and red SMEG fridge.

The building’s historic stairways, turrets, and stonework sit alongside modern rooms and public spaces.

Commons Club serves Scottish-led dishes and cocktails, while Eve focuses on Italian food, drinks, and late-night events. The hotel also runs music, talks, masterclasses, and Festival programming across its bars and social spaces. Both restaurants welcome non-residents, although tables are best booked during busy weekends and August.

Facilities and Hotel Policies

Virgin Hotels Edinburgh has several meeting and event rooms, a gym, room service, and dog-friendly bedrooms. Some public areas and restaurants also welcome dogs, but the rules vary between spaces. Guests with access needs or specific room requirements should discuss them with the hotel before booking.

Old Town Location

The entrance is on Victoria Street, where vehicle access can be confusing because of the Old Town’s one-way routes and steep streets. Waverley Station is around an eight-minute walk away, although luggage and the uphill sections may make a taxi the easier option for some guests.

Check the official Virgin Hotels Edinburgh website for room rates, dining reservations, event listings, and current hotel policies.
