Mercat Tours this Halloween!

EDINBURGH’S HORRIFIC HISTORY BROUGHT TO LIFE

New tours will explore some of Edinburgh’s horrible haunts and horrific history, as part of Mercat Tours’ haunting Halloween programme.

Delving into Edinburgh’s ghoulish past, the jam-packed Halloween programme runs from Friday 27 October to Tuesday 31 October.

Gory Stories will reveal Edinburgh’s creepy history, including tales of witches, evil doings and punishment. The family focussed tour – which is suitable for kids aged five and over – includes tales of the traditional Scottish Halloween tradition of ‘guising’ and tumshie lantern carving, before heading to the depths of the Blair Street Underground Vaults beneath the city streets.

The Spirits of Halloween tour will lead visitors down the city’s narrow and winding medieval closes, through a world which once thrived on blood, guts and gore.

Mercat Tours has also partnered with the National Trust for Scotland to give an after-hours look behind the scenes of both Charlotte Square’s Georgian House and Newhailes House, whose former occupants have blood-curdling stories which are sure to enlighten and entertain visitors.

For the courageous and daring, The Midnight Hour tour will descend into the Blair Street Underground Vaults in the dead of night. The tour, which is strictly for adults, will share the worst tales of misdeeds, the goriest details about the vault’s residents and the most ghoulish happenings from days gone by.

Kat Brogan, managing director of Mercat Tours, said: “Edinburgh’s streets are filled with stories of the sinister and strange, so we’ve brought the very best together for our visitors to experience over the Halloween period.

“We’re sure kids will relish the stories of witches and ghosts which we’ll be sharing with them over Halloween, but will any adults be brave enough to visit our underground vaults as midnight approaches?”

For international visitors to the city, there are also a number of tours available in German and Spanish.

All tours are now available for booking on Mercat Tours’ website – https://www.mercattours.com/
