Scuba Diving Santa At Deep Sea World

Scuba Diving Santa Claus and Sand Tiger Shark at Deep Sea World

Visitors to Deep Sea World, Scotland’s national aquarium, are being entertained over the festive period with special weekend dives by a scuba Santa Claus.

The intrepid Father Christmas is braving shark-infested waters to deliver presents to the aquarium’s team of divers and also hand out some treats to the fishy residents.

The sub-aquatic Saint Nick is sharing 4.5 million litre Underwater Safari display with three-metre-long sand tiger sharks, angel sharks, giant stingrays and thousands of other fish, crabs and lobsters.

Deep Sea World’s Tina Coventry said: “The highlight of many people’s visit is our regular shark diving talks and feeding displays in the giant ocean display. We’re hoping our sub-aquatic Santa will add a real festive twist to the experience and will prove to youngsters there really isn’t anywhere Father Christmas can’t deliver presents!” she added.

Diving Santa will be taking the plunge this Saturday (November 30th) and then every weekend until January 2014 (no dive on Christmas Day as Santa is otherwise occupied).

The North Queensferry attraction is also offering special deals over the festive period for its Shark Encounter dives with limited ‘Christmas Express’ places available.

The aquarium is one of only two in Britain which offers members of the public the chance to actually swim with sharks.

There are also Junior Shark Encounter dives available for children (8-15 years) which allow them to swim with the sharks but protected by secure metal gates.
