Edinburgh Bus Tours Launches Winter Season with New Photography Competition

Edinburgh Bus Tours is challenging visitors and locals alike to capture the best vistas of Edinburgh’s historical skyline with a new photography competition.

Kicking off today (Monday 2 November) and running until 4 January 2016, visitors can submit their best snaps via Facebook (facebook.com/edinburghtour) and Twitter (@edinburghtour), using the hashtag #wishyouwerehere.

This marks the start of the company’s winter season where the green Edinburgh Tour, red City Sightseeing and blue and yellow Majestic Tour to Leith are available, with tours operating 364 days a year excluding 25 December.

The lucky winner will have their sensational shot displayed in all of the Transport for Edinburgh group’s Travelshops, with a donation of £500 also being made in their name to parent company, Lothian Buses’ charity of the year, Fresh Start.

Kenny Campbell, Tour Operations Manager at Edinburgh Bus Tour, said: “Edinburgh is a special place during the winter months, as the city comes to life with seasonal celebrations, and visitors from all over the world descend on the Capital.  There are some truly beautiful sights to savour as the nights draw in and the days gets chillier, so we thought it would be a great idea to encourage our passengers to share their best pictures with us.

“With three routes running this winter, people will be able to snap a whole host of famous sites and landmarks – from the gothic history of the Old Town and the Georgian grandeur of the New Town, to the shimmering waters of Leith and the natural beauty of Holyrood Park. Our buses run every day except Christmas Day, so there are plenty of opportunities to capture a masterpiece over the festive season. I look forward to seeing all the entries and I’m sure it’ll be a tough job to choose a winner.”

Fresh Start is an Edinburgh based charity which helps previously homeless people to get established in their new home by working in partnership with a broad section of community based volunteers and organisations.

The winning entry will be chosen by a panel of judges from Edinburgh Bus Tours.

Since 2011 the tours have been rated five-stars by VisitScotland, the highest possible rating, offering multi-lingual audio commentary in up to 10 different languages, as well as live expert Edinburgh guides.

Prices start from £14 for adults and £6 for children, with family tickets from £33. Tickets are valid for 24 hours and visitors able to hop on and hop off at any stop along the routes from 9am to 4:50pm, depending on the bus chosen.
