I found an article when I was looking for a builder and it influenced my decision to take on Revere Contracts and Iain Martin but I had to terminate his contract after 8 nightmare months as it turns out he is a prolific Cowboy Builder with a whole string of victims across Edinburgh

Since the article, he went insolvent in June 2020 and had been expelled from the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).

In doing research, I have found a Facebook called ‘Edinburgh Cowboy builders’ and I would suggest you don’t take my word for this, but have a wee look and see just how many victims there are.

My project was to knock two rooms into one and add patio doors, along with some other internal works. My problems started when Iain Martin invoiced me for materials such as steelwork, patio doors, doors, windows, heating and electrical supplies. Nothing unusual and all within the quote, so I paid. But as the work stalled and deadlines were missed, he blamed the suppliers or Covid and found any excuse to divert attention. It all sounded so feasible.

My suspicions grew, so I called some of his suppliers and found that orders had never been placed or suppliers were not doing business with Iain Martin because they hadn’t been paid for earlier work.
Iain and his ‘Account Manager’ do not have the slightest grasp of decent project management, effective (or polite) communication, client service or managing peoples money honestly.

I am in touch with a number of the victims and some of their stories are horrific and all have been left significantly out of pocket.

    Hi David ,
We have a similar experience with 2 people called David & Kornel under a trader name Capital Refurbish.
They left our house in unacceptable and unsafe conditions, they never installed back 2 cabinet doors that were damaged by them , they bought for us the chimney fan from B&Q but we spoke with the supplier and the order was never placed !
They left our house after that we paid everything, just £ 120 left to pay , with a £ 500 unfinished job, our fan and the 2 cabinet doors for a damaged of almost £ 1k .
We have been in contact with the Police , Citizens advice , everyone in this city and they replied to us : We are still thinking .. This a serious matter and I think we need to take a legal action to change the law and make this crime punishable without wait for those dishonest people . We are going to proceed with a legal action against them but I think we need to work together to change the law .
