Scottish Opera brings Handel’s Alcina to Edinburgh Festival Theatre on Thursday 25 and Saturday 27 February 2027, with both performances starting at 7:15pm.
Director Olivia Fuchs relocates Handel’s fantasy to Club Amnesia, framing Alcina as a performance artist in a story built around desire, illusion, identity, and power.

What To Expect
In Scottish Opera’s production, Alcina controls the world around her from Club Amnesia until Ruggiero unsettles that balance. His fiancée arrives disguised as a man to rescue him, pushing the story into a collision between love, fantasy, and control.
Madeline Boreham sings Alcina, with Charlotte Clapperton as Ruggiero and Charlotte Jane Kennedy as Morgana. Dmitri Jurowski conducts the Orchestra of Scottish Opera. The staging contains drug misuse, and the company provides detailed access information for the Edinburgh performances.
Tickets & Access
The two Edinburgh performances are at the Festival Theatre. The Saturday 27 February performance is audio described, with a touch tour at 6pm that must be booked separately.

Getting There
Festival Theatre is on Nicolson Street in Edinburgh’s Southside. Numerous bus routes stop on Nicolson Street and South Bridge, and Waverley Station is around a 15-minute walk away.
The show runs for roughly two and a half hours, so allow for a later finish when arranging transport home.
