Coin Toss Collective are making their Fringe debut at the Pleasance with their multi-layered, award-nominated theatre show FREAK OUT!
FREAK OUT! tells the story of a seaside town fighting against the loss of their homes as a result of coastal erosion, which is accelerating due to climate change. At a fundraising party for a sea wall, difficult conversations rise to the surface as the community starts to fracture. Created and performed by a seven-strong ensemble, this VAULT Festival 2023 Show of the Week nominee draws from research into affected communities. Over 35 homes have been lost to the waves in Happisburgh, Norfolk in the last two decades alone and 19% of the Scottish coastline is vulnerable to erosion as sea levels rise.
FREAK OUT! blends clowning, audience interaction and archival video into a high-energy, tragicomic theatrical cocktail. Come for a slice of cake and perhaps build a sandcastle with us, but expect things to get messy… literally.
FREAK OUT! was developed with support of choreographer Anthony Matsena (Sadler’s Wells Associate) and Papatango Prize-winning playwright Matt Grinter.
