Barbara Rae: Charting South runs at the Royal Scottish Academy from 21 November 2026 to 24 January 2027. The free exhibition presents new work shaped by Rae’s 2022 journey to Antarctica.
The paintings follow locations connected to Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, including South Georgia and Elephant Island.

What To Expect
Rae’s work uses colour, abstraction and observed detail to respond to place. This body of work moves from the Arctic subject matter of her earlier Northwest Passage exhibition to landscapes linked with Shackleton’s southern route.
