Edinburgh One of the Best Hen-do Destinations

When the time comes and hens are allowed out on the town to celebrate the impending marriage of close friends or family, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that Edinburgh is likely to be near the top of the list in terms of favoured destinations.

At least that’s the view of Glamour Magazine, who have rated the Scottish capital as one of the world’s best hen-do cities. The magazine recently published a list of the best hen party destinations, a comprehensive spectrum of towns and cities to suit all tastes and budgets.

Edinburgh named the ideal ‘fun city break’

Glamour described the Scottish capital as “one of the most beautiful cities in Europe” – and of course, we would agree. They add that there is so much to see and do in terms of shopping, dining out, drinking and even a healthy dose of Scottish culture.

Edinburgh also suits adventurous, active hen groups down to the ground, with fantastic walks available up to the top of Edinburgh Castle, as well as several walking challenges available via the Tramble App. Climb Arthur’s Seat together or Carlton Hill before a well-earned spot of retail therapy along Princes Street.

Fanatical foodies are also well-catered for, according to Glamour, with the magazine recommended Ting Thai Caravan for those that adore south-east Asian flavours. Meanwhile The Bon Vivant is also mentioned for its delicious Sunday roast that could be the ideal hangover cure after a heavy Saturday night.

Where else in the world is hot right now for hen-do’s?

Glamour also shines a spotlight on the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, which is said to be a haven for foodies too. Accommodation for big groups is apparently affordable and stylish within the city centre, making it an easy logistical trip. They recommend daytime trips to The Time Out Food Market with its mouth-watering mix of fresh seafood, appetisers like charcuterie and even handmade pizzas.

It’s also one of the oldest cities on the planet and is the second-oldest capital in Europe after the ancient Greek capital of Athens, so the city itself oozes history as well as culinary class.

Las Vegas is still one of the most in-demand places for groups of women to party, particularly for hen-do’s. For decades, ‘Sin City’ has been the place to be for the world’s greatest entertainment, spanning world-class shows and performers as well as lavish casinos and their exclusive gaming environments.

The bright lights of Las Vegas have inspired popular culture in so many ways. Who could forget the hilarity of The Hangover movie which was set along the Vegas Strip? It’s also provided the impetus for the online slot title Lost Vegas which fuses a zombie apocalypse with fabulous Las Vegas. Even household board game favourites like Monopoly have chosen to design a Las Vegas version based on all the popular resorts that line Las Vegas Boulevard.

The quintessential Croatian port town of Hvar is a very trendy place to be for hens. Situated on a Croatian island within the Adriatic, Hvar is something of a hidden gem. At least it was before the Made in Chelsea crew opted to shoot some episodes out there in 2019.

The seas surrounding Hvar are crystal blue, like something you would expect to find in the Caribbean. The weather in Hvar is notoriously beautiful. The island bathes in around 2,800 hours of sunshine each year and its nightlife is equally impressive, with plenty of restaurants, bars and beach clubs offering stunning scenery for happy hens.

Hvar specialises in growing lavender with a host of spectacular fields to explore. If it’s a scent that you enjoy, it’s an absolute must-have to bring home from the hen party.

For those looking to plan a hen-do on the strictest of budgets, the Hungarian capital of Budapest is also heralded by Glamour as being a budget-friendly destination for hens. There are plenty of apartments with accommodation suitable for up to a dozen or more guests. Girls will love the chance to have a gossip and unwind in the city’s much-loved Szechenyi Thermal Baths, which are popular with the Budapest locals all year-round.

Budapest’s nightlife also shouldn’t be sniffed at either, with its unique ‘ruin bars’ oozing personality and history. These buildings, many of which were condemned due to being part-destroyed in World War II, have since been brought up to scratch becoming some of Europe’s most talked about bars.

Being a Maid of Honour and arranging a hen party is a big job, with big boots to fill. Be sure not to discount our wonderful city, it might just have exactly what you are looking for!
