Cramond Beach is one of Edinburgh’s most peaceful coastal spots — a wide, breezy shoreline overlooking the Firth of Forth with views towards Fife, the Forth bridges and shifting tidal sand patterns.

It’s a favourite for dog walkers, families, cyclists and anyone wanting a quieter coastal escape without leaving the city.

From the promenade you can follow the long causeway out to Cramond Island, a tidal island connected to the mainland at low tide. It’s an atmospheric walk surrounded by WWII submarine defences, but you must check tide times carefully — the causeway floods quickly and unpredictably.

The village area around Cramond is charming too, with old cottages, the River Almond, a small harbour and cafés at the promenade. On a clear day, it’s one of Edinburgh’s most relaxing outdoor areas.

Highlights:

  • Long coastal promenade with wide sea views
  • Walkable tidal causeway to Cramond Island (tide-dependent)
  • WWII concrete pylons and historic defences
  • Popular for dog walking, cycling and quiet mornings
  • Small harbour and café at the promenade
  • Great sunrise spot with big open skies
