The wife of Deep Sea World’s curator will be aiming to walk a marathon at the North Queensferry aquarium on Sunday, January 26th to raise money for charity.
Nikki Smith, from Fife, will be joined by friends Sarah Tait and Rose Malcolm as they attempt to complete the marathon on a treadmill in the aquarium’s exhibition hall.
The trio are raising money for the breast cancer charity Walk the Walk and are hoping to raise around £2,000 in total.
“The aquarium marathon will be the official start of our fundraising activity and we’re hoping as many people as possible will come along and support us,” said Nikki, “The fact that we’re going to do the entire marathon on a treadmill will be quite a mental challenge and we’ll need people to help us stay focussed,” she added.
The aquarium walk is the first stage in an epic charity challenge which will see the three women attempt to complete three marathons in three different countries in five weeks.
Having already completed seven MoonWalks and two marathons between them ‘The Tartan Tramping Trio’ decided to take on the ultimate challenge this year in the shape of the ‘Three Land Challenge’.
The challenge involves taking part in the MoonWalk in London on May 14th, followed by the Edinburgh MoonWalk on June 7th and culminating in the Iceland MoonWalk on June 14th.
MoonWalks are nocturnal marathons to raise money to fund research, care and treatment of breast cancer.
The charity Walk the Walk then looks at various projects and campaigns that are involved with breast cancer and grants funds to where they believe it will make the most difference. They fund research and also support those that have cancer now.
