Age Scotland is calling on nimble-fingered knitters to whip out their wool and needles and create little woolly hats for The Big Knit.
Now in its 11th year, The Big Knit, a joint campaign between innocent drinks and Age UK, is calling on budding milliners to get inventive and knit miniature woolly hats to adorn innocent smoothie bottles, which will be sold in stores nationwide from February 2015.
For each be-hatted smoothie sold in Scotland, innocent will donate 25p to help Age Scotland fund its work, aimed at supporting older people across the country to enjoy a better later life. Age Scotland is calling on local knitters to get as many hats as possible to them by 24th October, to help the charity achieve its target of 60,000.
Brian Sloan, Chief Executive at Age Scotland, said: “Winter can be a really difficult time of year for many older people, so it’s really important that local knitters get behind The Big Knit to help raise money to fund our work across Scotland.
“Last year the country’s knitters really got behind us and we had a fantastic array of colourful creations arriving at the office. I hope we get more of the same this year.”
Jamie Sterry, innocent drinks, said: “Last year, dedicated knitters notched up a record number of little hats to celebrate over a decade of The Big Knit, which we hope can be reached again this year.”
Knitters can contact Age Scotland to get a free hat pattern. For those who don’t fancy making a hat themselves, a £3 donation can be made to Age Scotland by *texting ‘AGES10’ £3 to 70070
