Interior of Wedgwood the Restaurant in Edinburgh

Wedgwood the Restaurant

Wedgwood the Restaurant is an independent Royal Mile restaurant run by Paul and Lisa Wedgwood, serving seasonal Scottish cooking from a compact dining room on the Canongate.

Chef Paul Wedgwood’s cooking makes regular use of Scottish produce and foraged ingredients, with lunch, à la carte and tasting menus changing with the seasons. The style is fine dining, but the restaurant deliberately keeps the atmosphere relaxed rather than formal.

What To Expect

Menus are built around fish, meat, vegetables and wild ingredients sourced according to season. Foraging is more than a menu theme here: the restaurant also runs guided Scottish foraging courses during spring and summer.

The restaurant is split across two levels, with space for around 30 guests upstairs and 18 downstairs. Dietary requirements can usually be accommodated with advance notice, and the restaurant now also offers a children’s menu alongside its main dining options.

Opening & Bookings

Wedgwood opens seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Normal booking times begin at noon for lunch and 5pm for dinner, with later dinner bookings on Friday and Saturday. Festival schedules can extend these hours, so check the latest times when visiting in August.

Our Tips

  • If the foraged side of the menu interests you, check the separate foraging-course dates rather than relying on a particular ingredient being available year-round.
  • Tell the restaurant about dietary requirements when booking so the kitchen can plan ahead.
  • August is especially busy on the Royal Mile, so allow extra walking time even if you are coming from nearby Festival venues.
  • The restaurant is on the Canongate section of the Royal Mile, downhill from St Giles’ Cathedral and closer to Holyrood.

See the official Wedgwood the Restaurant website for current menus, reservations and foraging-course dates.
