The Scotch Whisky Experience
The Scotch Whisky Experience is a visitor attraction at the top of the Royal Mile, beside Edinburgh Castle. Its guided tours explain how Scotch whisky is made, introduce the main producing regions and finish with a tasting suited to the chosen ticket.
A major feature is the Diageo Claive Vidiz collection, with thousands of bottles displayed in illuminated cabinets. The building also contains Amber Restaurant and Whisky Bar, a large shop and private event spaces. Tour formats range from a shorter introduction to longer tastings and food pairings, with several language options available.
Planning a Visit
Tour times, prices and age rules depend on the experience selected. Some options suit families, while tastings involving several whiskies are restricted to adults. Advance booking is recommended, especially during summer and weekends.
Getting There
The attraction is on Castlehill, at the upper end of the Royal Mile. Waverley Station is around a 15-minute uphill walk, and buses stop on George IV Bridge, North Bridge and nearby city-centre streets. See the official Scotch Whisky Experience website for live availability.
