The Standing Order Wetherspoons on George Street Edinburgh with outdoor seating and marquees

The Standing Order

The Standing Order is a big Wetherspoons pub at 62-66 George Street in Edinburgh’s New Town. It’s known for its grand former-bank building, low prices and classic pub grub right in the city centre.

Housed in a striking Grade A listed building that was once the Union Bank of Scotland (designed 1874–1878), The Standing Order keeps many original features including marble pillars, ornate ceilings and even old bank vaults.

It’s one of the more impressive Wetherspoons conversions in Edinburgh and pulls in locals, shoppers and visitors for its reliable cheap eats and pints.

Food & Drink

Standard Wetherspoons menu with burgers, curries, fish & chips, pizzas, breakfasts and daily specials. Prices are typical for the chain — expect good value meal deals and kids’ options around £4.99–£5.75. The bar serves a wide range of real ales, lagers, wines and spirits. Guest ales change regularly.

Facilities: Wi-Fi, TV screens, step-free access, baby change, licensed outdoor area

Our Take

A solid central option when you want straightforward, affordable food and drink in a characterful building. The historic interiors make it more interesting than your average Wetherspoons, especially for first-time visitors to George Street.
