The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra brings Holst’s The Planets to Usher Hall in Edinburgh on Sunday 7 March 2027. This is a 3pm afternoon concert in the orchestra’s 2026–27 season.
The Planets is a seven-movement orchestral suite whose contrasting portraits include Mars, Venus and Jupiter. Its broad range of moods makes it one of the most recognisable large-scale works in the repertoire.

What To Expect
The suite moves from the forceful rhythms of Mars to quieter, more spacious writing and the familiar tune in Jupiter. Hearing it at Usher Hall gives the orchestra room for the full scale of Holst’s sound.
The official venue listing also uses an image of cellist Laura van der Heijden, but the short ticket summary does not establish the complete Edinburgh programme. Check the event information nearer the date if another piece or performer is central to your plans.
Tickets and Getting There
Usher Hall stands on Lothian Road, close to the west end of Princes Street. The event is an afternoon performance: the advertised start is 3pm, not an evening concert.
The official venue listing lists several ticket bands and concessions. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, and availability or prices may change before the performance.
