Cramond Beach is one of Edinburghâs most peaceful coastal spots â a wide, breezy shoreline overlooking the Firth of Forth with views towards Fife, the Forth bridges and shifting tidal sand patterns.
Itâs a favourite for dog walkers, families, cyclists and anyone wanting a quieter coastal escape without leaving the city.
From the promenade you can follow the long causeway out to Cramond Island, a tidal island connected to the mainland at low tide. Itâs an atmospheric walk surrounded by WWII submarine defences, but you must check tide times carefully â the causeway floods quickly and unpredictably.
The village area around Cramond is charming too, with old cottages, the River Almond, a small harbour and cafĂ©s at the promenade. On a clear day, itâs one of Edinburghâs most relaxing outdoor areas.
Highlights:
- Long coastal promenade with wide sea views
- Walkable tidal causeway to Cramond Island (tide-dependent)
- WWII concrete pylons and historic defences
- Popular for dog walking, cycling and quiet mornings
- Small harbour and café at the promenade
- Great sunrise spot with big open skies
