Sunny Afternoon – The Kinks Musical

The Olivier Award-winning musical Sunny Afternoon is coming to Edinburgh Playhouse for a short five-performance run from Tuesday 5 to Saturday 9 May 2026.

It tells the true story of The Kinks – their rise, rivalries and the 1960s rock scene – through a stack of the band’s biggest hits. Tickets are on sale now.

What To Expect

This is a full-scale musical with live band, sharp script, and all the classic Kinks tracks that defined British rock.

Expect high-energy performances, period detail, and the story of friendship, fame, and rebellion behind songs like “You Really Got Me,” “Lola,” and “All Day and All of the Night.”

Age guidance 12+ (strong language).

Tickets are available via ATG Tickets. Prices start from £31.20 and vary by performance and seat. Matinees are slightly cheaper on some days. As with most big musicals at the Playhouse, popular dates sell steadily so booking early is sensible if you want good seats.

• Limited paid parking nearby – public transport is easiest for evening shows

Our Tips

• Matinee days (Wed, Fri, Sat) are often a bit quieter if you prefer to avoid peak crowds
• The Playhouse bar gets busy before evening shows – arrive 30–40 minutes early if you want a drink
• The upper circle still gives a strong view of the full stage and choreography
