Alexander McCall Smith and Chris Paterson Launch Eric Liddell Medals Charity Dinner, Edinburgh, 30/10/2017:
The two speakers at the Eric Liddell charity dinner - Chris Paterson (Scottish rugby international, left) and internationally renowned writer Alexander McCall Smith, with three Olympic medals belonging to Eric Liddell, pictured in the Eric Liddell Centre, Morningside, Edinburgh.
Athlete Eric Liddell was famously portrayed in the "Chariots of Fire" 1981 British film - about his 1924 Paris Olympics sprinting victories.
Eric's three 1924 medals, held by Chris and Alexander, are (from left) his bronze 200 metres medal, his gold 400 metres medal and the 1924 Olympic participation medal (given to all the athletes who participated in the 1924 Games). The medals are captioned in the correct order - general ageing and tarnishing has changed their appearance, especially of the gold medal (centre).
