Scottish Premiership 2018/19 What the bookies think?

Celtic should secure 50th league title, but battle for second spot could go to the wire

If the online bookies are to be believed, the race for the Scottish Premiership this coming season is already something of a foregone conclusion, with Glasgow Celtic the red nay white hot 1/10 favourites with William Hill to claim an eighth consecutive title (and 50th domestic league title in their history). So that is for every £10 you bet on Celtic you will win a pound.

Scottish Football Betting Odds – Who will win the SPL?

Aberdeen (available at 20/1 odds) to win the SPL have finished runners-up to the Bhoys in each of the last four seasons, but its Celtic’s Old Firm rivals Glasgow Rangers who are deemed to be the most likely challengers to halt the Celtic juggernaut this term at 8/1 with bet365 bookies (among others).

Betting Odds without Celtic (i.e. who comes 2nd?)

  • 1/2 Rangers
  • 7/2 Aberdeen
  • 8/1 Hibernian
  • 50/1 Kilmarnock
  • 100/1 Heart of Midlothian
  • 150/1 Motherwell
  • 200/1 Dundee
  • 200/1 St Johnstone
  • 500/1 Hamilton Accies
  • 500/1 Livingston
  • 500/1 St Mirren

Stevie G hits Glasgow Rangers

The Rangers squad has undergone a fairly major overhaul under novice manager Steven Gerrard, so the latest sports betting tips around the Ibrox club involve a fair amount of guesswork.

As for the Dons, their squad currently looks short of numbers, so further recruitment over the closing weeks of the transfer window is imperative if they are to mount any sort of title challenge.

But what about Edinburgh football?

Next in the SPL betting odds lists come the Edinburgh duo of Hibernian and Hearts, and any eternally optimistic fans can bet at a whopping 66/1 and 200/1 for them to win the Scottish Premier League with the BetVictor and Betway bookmakers respectively.

They are probably worth popping a free bet on at most, just in case and provide a free fun bet for the season. Miracles do happen, who can forget Leicester City winning the Premier League at 5000/1 in 2016!

Those current best odds (*available at the time of writing) are largely reflective of the fact that there were 18 points between the two teams last season, with Hibernian finishing fourth and Hearts ending the campaign down in sixth spot (with Kilmarnock filling the Edinburgh sandwich by finishing in 5th).

The core of Neil Lennon’s squad is currently little changed from the end of last season, although a few of last term’s loan signings will need replacing.  That stability should ensure another strong showing from the Hibees this year, who only finished six points shy of second placed last season.

Levein On A Jetplane?

There’s been far more movement in and out of the club at Tynecastle over the summer and there are some fine young talents in Craig Levein’s squad.  They should close the gap on their neighbours, but could be hard pushed to finish above them.

Hearts Tynecastle

At the foot of the SPL table, the newly promoted duo of Livingston and St Mirren are favourites to finish bottom of the table at 5/2 and 7/2 respectively.

Perennial survival specialists Hamilton Academical are next in the betting at 5/1, with Dundee at 7/1 with some betting firms. It’s difficult to see beyond these four teams when it comes to the battle to avoid automatic demotion and the relegation play-off spot.
