On the 7th of the 7th at 7pm…

The Duke of Norfolk is the stage name of peripatetic Oklahoma-born, Adam Howard. Currrently living in Portland, Oregon but having previously called home a half-dozen places from Scotland’s Capitol to a small town in Arkansas, Howard’s music weaves the sounds of these places with his interest in electronic music and his deep fascination of religion & mythology into something like a kind of modern folk tinged with archaic language. His new album, Attendre et Espérer, is an exploration of death & religious traditions of mourning. SOUNDS LIKE: The Tallest Man on Earth, Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver

A BBC Introducing Artist, this is an indie folk rock project by Alex Maxwell, a Dumfries-based singer-songwriter with a debut EP released December 15, 2017. The music ranges from upbeat finger picking folk to full on indie-folk-rock-pop songs with hooky vocal lines for singalongs. His 5 track debut EP ‘The Want Comes in Waves’ released December 8, 2017 with ambitions to tour the UK and Europe following release. Alex performs solo, duo (with violinist) and as a 5 piece band. In 2015, Alex was invited to perform at ‘Folksville’, ‘Sofar Sounds Edinburgh’, ‘The Listening Rooms’, performed feature sessions with Edinburgh Unplugged, Catalyst Sessions, played Wickerman and Electric Fields festival and supported Will Varley. SOUNDS LIKE: The Tallest Man On Earth, Frightened Rabbit, Frank Turner

Ali Burress describes her creative process as finding “homes” within her songs—somewhere she can retreat in order to make sense of all of life’s chaos. Her sensuously atmospheric recordings transport listeners to serene sonic landscapes, soaring above a valley or swaying like a boat on the ocean. Inspired by the desert landscape of Joshua Tree and the dense forests of Oregon, Ali writes finger-picked melodies as a reminder that, like these beautiful places, music is a place where she feels a sense of belonging. SOUNDS LIKE: Laura Marling, Sharon Van Etten, Cat Power
