Britain’s first European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut, and national treasure, Tim Peake, will be visiting Edinburgh’s five-star attraction Dynamic Earth this autumn.

On 17 October, families are invited to come and meet Tim Peake at Dynamic Earth. Tim began a 6 month mission to live and work on the International Space Station back in December 2015, and returned to Earth earlier this year.

As part of his hour-long visit to Dynamic Earth, Tim will give a short presentation in the attraction’s Biosphere, followed by a Q&A session, set to inspire children and adults alike in the wonders of space exploration. 300 tickets are available for this event at a cost of £5 each.

Following the ticketed event, Tim will meet with visitors on the top deck of the attraction. His visit coincides with Dynamic Earth’s ‘Universe is Your Oyster – Inspiring Young Scientists’ event, funded by the UK Space Agency, where young people are invited to come and meet real life scientists, and learn about the exciting career possibilities available for them in the world of Space and Earth Observation. Guests can speak with the scientists, get hands on with fascinating kit and find out about a whole range of opportunities available through studying science subjects at school and beyond – and Tim’s presence is sure to offer unbeatable inspiration for aspiring astronauts and scientists.

Dynamic Earth’s marketing manager, Eilidh Massie comments: “We are pulling out all the stops this October with a visit from Tim Peake. His amazing contribution to the European Space Agency, and science as a whole, is inspirational and we are so excited to have him here. We’ve been following Tim’s space adventure closely over the past year, with lots of space-themed events and activities for visitors, and we are truly honoured to be able to welcome him to the attraction. This is a day for all the family to enjoy and one that will be truly unforgettable.”

Tim is visiting Edinburgh as part of a UK-wide tour, and is visiting the city in partnership with the ESA and UK Space Agency.

On top of this exciting event, Dynamic Earth is hosting an array of educational events and hands on activities for children and adults to enjoy throughout October.

To celebrate Earth Sciences Week, Dynamic Earth will be holding special events on 8th ,9th ,15th  and 23rd  October. Visitors will have the chance to get hands on with Earth Sciences through exciting kit and hands on activities, including augmented reality! Explorers of all ages will be able to explore dinosaur fossils, make their own tornadoes, become rainforest detectives and polar explorers, and so much more.

Another event not to miss is a night with explorer-in-residence at the Royal Scottish Geographical Society, Craig Mathieson. Craig, along with the 2016 team from Edinburgh, will share stories of adventures in the Polar regions and tell the audience about the Polar Academy, where young people are given the chance to participate in an Artic Expedition. Tales of Polar Exploration will take place at Dynamic Earth on 10 October.

In addition, the Scottish Mineral and Lapidary Club will be returning to Dynamic Earth with their extremely popular display of minerals and gems, and the British Geological Survey will engage and inspire guests with an incredible one day event celebrating the Power of our Planet in their 2016 Science Showcase Event on October 22nd.

In celebration of this unmissable month, Dynamic Earth is offering an exclusive October upgrade deal. Visitors can opt to upgrade to an annual explorer pass for the same price of a day ticket. This gives year-round access to the attraction, which features Scotland’s only permanent 4D cinema, a real iceberg, a bone-shaking earthquake, the Deep Time Machine which takes visitors billions of years back in time, and the mesmerising ShowDome.

The October activities will run until 23 October, and all except the presentation and Q&A with Tim Peake, are free with admission to Dynamic Earth. For more information on events and activities happening at Dynamic Earth, visit www.dynamicearth.co.uk.
