Autumn Winter 2019 Hair Trends

AW19 is just around the corner and there are lots of different hairstyles and colours to be aware of as the seasons change. We caught up with two of Edinburgh’s top hairdressing experts to get the lowdown on what we can expect and how we can stay ahead of the trend game this Autumn/Winter.

Quotes from Simon Hill, Owner of SESH Hairdressing

Centre partings are set to be the next big trend for AW19 (Autumn Winder). We saw this style make a comeback a few years previously and the focus has slightly shifted away from this over recent year. Keep your parting dead centre and really crisp and clear to make sure you are on trend this Autumn/Winter.

Relaxed ponytails can also be expected towards the latter end of 2019. Forget the high ponytail that is tied tightly and embrace a low slung ponytail at the nape of your neck. For a cool finish, wrap a piece of hair around the hair tie to disguise this and pull out a few strands for an undone look.

Disco waves are another look to watch out for this AW! Think 70’s style volume with lots of height and texture throughout your hair. Using a small straightening iron to wrap your hair around works best to create this style. Once styled, use your fingers to tease the curls out and backcomb where necessary to create that voluminous finish.

Quotes from Neil Barton, Goldwell Ambassador and Owner of Neil Barton Hairdressing

For Autumn/Winter 2019  it’s all about super glossy hair! For brunettes, I love those delicious chocolate brown and warm, rich shades and for blondes, think more toned down, golden and caramel shades instead of the lighter, creamier and platinum hues that were popular in the summer time. These colours are all super reflective and make the hair appear shinier and healthier and can easily be achieved in the salon with a glossing or semi-permanent hair colour service.

Red hues always make a big appearance during the autumn/winter season and it’s no different for 2019. From strawberry blonde to deep auburn, there was an array of red shades on trend for the colder months, with a shade to suit each individual clients skin tone and to really compliment their complexion.

Due to the season, red hair has blown up over Instagram recently with bright red shades and shades of cinnamon being particularly favoured. For a high shine, catwalk-inspired red hair look I particularly love to use cinnamon and copper shades and mixing highlights with the Goldwell Pure Pigments in Red to give the hair extra shine and to warm up the skin tone and allow it to really glow.

Pastel shades remain popular going into AW19. Pastel pinks and corals will be the most favoured pastel colours and these shades are great as they are very versatile and do not have to be high maintenance. For those who want a lower maintenance look, these shades can be paired with a root stretch and fade beautifully.
